A cartoon guru teaches me a lesson

Today I am writing about gratitude.  I had a hissy fit this week when my paycheck didn’t go as far and I wanted it to.  And then I remembered how grateful I am to have a job with pleasant people.  This is important.  So now I am blessing every dollar.

Daniel and I have been watching the Avatar cartoons on TV and we love how the animators are teaching lessons about goodness and positive thought and focus.

The other night the Avatar went to a guru on a mountain who explained all the chakras to him.  “In this chakra resides shame,” he said.  “In this charka resides guilt.”

It was so easy to understand and such a great reminder of simple knowledge I had forgotten – if I every really understood it at all.

How grateful I am that there is TV that is teaching children lessons like this when they are so young.  How happy I am that the children of today have this advantage.  A cartoon guru indeed.

Always I must remember to clear my mind and practice gratitude.  Also forgiveness.  And the most important person I can forgive is me.  I think I should write a song about that!

Get in FREE to the vintage motorcycle show

You know, I have this CD called Harley Girl. I wrote the cover song after my dear departed friend, Tommie Kirkpatrick gave me the song in a dream.

I always thought I should attend the Vintage Motorcycle Show in Rhinebeck, NY and share my music but I never got around to it.

Last week I saw an article about this weekend’s rally and I called Dan Henke -- chairman of the NE Coalition of the AMCA and president of the Hudson Valley chapter. He put me in touch with Cathy who practically runs the whole thing. And you know what? They are giving us a free table to promote this year’s Concert for Veterans.

I cried. I am so moved by the generosity of so many people. Motorcycle people are really patriotic. I love that.

I may have mentioned that this year’s Concert for Veterans is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 23, 2010 at 7pm. All profits from this year’s concert go to the Wounded Warrior Project which is an organization that helps severely wounded soldiers and their families stay in their homes and live normal lives.

To that end I often wonder what normal looks like. Normal means the families get to stay together. Normal means they can kiss each other good night under the same roof. Eat breakfast together. Snuggle and watch TV. Simple things most of us take for granted.

To me, normal means living the beautiful American dream that we cherish. And we owe our freedom to these brave men and women who keep us safe and free.

So here’s the deal. Anyone who comes this weekend and helps us man the Concert for Veterans booth will get in for free. That’s a $30 value if you bring a friend. Call me at 845.464.9025 or text or email at Lisa@lisadudley.com. Or buy tickets to the concert online at LisaDudley.com. Semper fi.

First a blog and now a YouTube!

My life is so exciting. First I have a blog and now a YouTube.

David Knag helped me to film this music video to I Believe In America. It's simple -- no band -- just Lisa Dudley with her guitar in Melanie Crawford's beautiful blooming garden.

I wrote I Believe In America several months after 9/11. I live in New York and like many of us, I was like a deer in headlights for a long time after the bombing. This song was an awakening for me because I realized I love my country and I believe Americans always do the right thing eventually.

Anyway, lots of people love this song so it's time to get it out there!

Check it out and pass it on.

Yours,
Lisa Dudley

Wow.  I have a blog.

This is very exciting for me because I do have a lot to say.  Just ask my husband!

I am a multi-tasking female who is busy writing mortgages, writing songs, doing Tarot Card readings, running my husband’s office, putting together the 2010 Concert for Veterans, and putting out the live concert CD from last year’s performance.

How do these all tie in together?  Well, actually they do.  A percentage of sales from writing mortgages goes into helping veterans.  My concern for veterans’ rights has led to writing many of the soldier songs we sang at last year’s Concert for Veterans.

We recorded last year’s concert and we’re releasing it this year as the live concert CD,  “Broken Purple Heart.”   The up-tempo song by that name tells the story of a soldier who comes home from Iraq only to face divorce -- which he says is worse than combat.

And the CD release party for the new record is simultaneous with the 2010 Concert for Veterans on Saturday, October 23rd at the St. John’s Episcopal Church on Albany Avenue in Kingston, just off the NY thruway traffic circle.

We had so much fun we’re doing it again.  Save the date and stay tuned for more information.

P.S. Remember to call if you need a mortgage anywhere in New York State! 845.464.9025.
